I recently had the opportunity at the Palm Beach Boat Show to inspect "Star". Launched in 2012 she is the fifth project built by Kingship Marine Limited in collaboration with Vripack International. Kingship which was founded in 2004 and based in Hong Kong, has quickly become a world class superyacht builder and has been nominated multiple times for top honors in the World Superyacht Awards. They were the first in Asia to build fully Lloyds and MCA certified yachts with steel hulls and aluminum superstructures and "Star" is one of the latest examples of their high level of craftsmenship.
"Star" is a 138' trideck design which has a wonderful blend of traditional exterior lines and contemporary interior styling. She is full displacement and with her CAT C32 engines is transocean capable with a cruising range of 4500nm. The high flared bow and soft turn to the bilge along with Zero Speed Quantum stabalizers makes her a very comfortable passagemaker.
The interior has a 5 stateroom layout with a full beam master on the main deck. Four guest staterooms are on the lower deck with 2 VIP doubles and 2 twin cabins each with an additional pullman berth and all with ensuites. Crew cabins with accomodations for 8 are forward. "Star" has a very well thoughtout layout which I believe works well for guests and crew alike. There is good access for the crew which helps the efficiency of the workflow and adds to the privacy of the guests.
The main deck entrance is amidships to starboard. The centerline staircase here gives easy access to upper and lower deck areas. The entryway aft leads to the main saloon and dining area. Galley is forward with access from the entryway as well as from the dining area to port. Forward from the entryway is the full beam master.
The deck area aft of the main saloon serves as the boat deck and can carry two 21' dinghies and has two 1.5 ton hydraulic cranes. A staircase forward to port leads to the bridge deck and a large outdoor space which can accommodate alfresco dining and has a very comfortable C-shaped settee/dinette aft. Sliding doors forward take you into the skylounge/entertainment area. The bridge forward is very well equipped and as a recent build has up to date electronics. A very roomy captain's cabin and office are adjacent. Up top the sundeck area offers mutiple lounging areas with settee arrangements, dining, sun beds, bar and hot tub.
"Star" is a very impressive build which has combined Vripack design and engineering with Dutch built steel and aluminum components and Lloyds and MCA certifications. Additionally she had a refit in 2014 which included full exterior Awlgrip paint, new interior furniture, curtains, marble and wood flooring and replacement of carpeting in the main saloon, sky lounge and all staterooms.
Aft Bridge Deck
I think "Star" is an excellent value and worth serious consideration for anyone looking for a superior built long range cruiser in this size and class range.
