Scout II started life as Kiring at 111’. When the original owner gave Brooke Yachts the brief of wanting a robust world cruising yacht with commercial naval background, Brooke reached into their commercial tug designs and used them as the base for Kiring. The owner then hired renowned designer Disdale to do the interior and exterior styling which, in its former length and look, was styled as a hybrid Tug look.

The tug design had a 30’ beam that is very large on a 111’ platform and even in its present length of 130’ is still very generous. The beam, combined with the 10’ draft, makes the vessel very stable and gives a huge amount of volume. This allows her to carry 12,645 gal of fuel and 2,221 gal of water, providing her with a range of 4200 nm at 10 knots.

Engine Room
Where you can really see the beam is in the very large center engine room. She has the wonderful mechanical 3408TA 507 hp Caterpillar main engines. These are some of the best and most reliable engines Caterpillar built. Most of the rest of the equipment was replaced with top of the line gear and it is all very easy to see and service. Keeping the mains and updating the rest gives you the best of both worlds.

The refit and restyling of Kiring to make her into Scout II was extensive and I will not go into detail about it. It is all very well documented in the information I can send you. I would like to mention some very good points. The re-work of the bow design gives her a more modern look and the increase in flare and a bit higher bow makes her dryer forward.
Aft Sky Lounge Deck from Above
The new stern provides great access to the water and the nice size lazarette. These changes give you all of the advantages of a modern Explorer but when you walk in you are encompassed in a classic but light interior that is a masterpiece of Disdale design. The lounge deck that he created was ahead of its time, with a huge forward lounge/office, dining area and large boat deck dining area. There is also a wonderful fly bridge with hot top and a head with shower on the fly bridge.

As expected when you look at the original design and the improvements, the captain who has run vessels in the 60m range reports that Scout II is one of the best sea boats he has been on.
